On May 28th 2025, Godrej Capital’s new office in Kanjurmarg, Mumbai saw a unique Pride celebration as team members and leaders at Godrej Capital came together with artists from the Aravani Art Project to paint a wall mural celebrating diversity and inclusion.
Aravani Art Project, a transwomen-led art collective that aims to create spaces for people from the transgender community, designed a mural themed “Building Financial Inclusion Together” for the project. The theme aims to highlight Godrej Capital’s commitment to fostering a more equitable financial ecosystem, and to serve as an expression of the organisation’s belief in the need for an inclusive and accessible workplace for all.
The Aravani artists worked on designing, sketching, and painting the mural over three days. On one of these days, they invited members from Godrej Capital and the Godrej DEI Lab to join the party, and to collaborate to bring the mural to life. They were handed paintbrushes, paint cans, and aprons – all under the guidance of the Aravani artists. And as a brand-new intern of the DEI Lab, I was one of the people handed a paintbrush. Apart from the nerves of messing up, I found the experience to be quite interesting. While painting the mural (and hopefully contributing!), I learnt about the different projects helmed by the Aravani Art Project and celebrated the importance of diversity with colleagues.
At the end of the event, we were addressed by Vicky Shinde, an active member of the Aravani Art Project, who expressed their gratitude for the opportunity and spoke on the importance of allyship support.
Here’s to speaking about inclusion everyday, and to making a mark – literally and otherwise!
