“I started making calls, initiating conversations, showing up, and slowly, my team they started coming to me with queries. Now, if there’s an update, I’m the first one they call.”
“Most women choose a desk. I chose the field.”
When Lakshmi Priya joined Godrej in November 2022, she didn’t follow a conventional route. She didn’t want a 9-to-5 job where she would have to sit behind a laptop. She wanted a bike, the open road, and the kind of work where she could meet people, talk to them, and learn from them. So, she chose sales.
“I like riding my scooter, I like meeting people, and I like learning on the go.”
In the sales role, she was the only woman field officer. She knew it wouldn’t be easy. Her team didn’t take to her immediately; there were no open conversations, no camaraderie, just silence. But Lakshmi didn’t let that define her.
“I started making calls, initiating conversations, showing up, and slowly, my team they started coming to me with queries. Now, if there’s an update, I’m the first one they call.”
Her boldness is quiet, but persistent. Whether it’s in the market or at home, she believes in handling both with clarity and strength. After returning from maternity leave, she picked up work right where she left off. No hesitation. No setbacks.
“Even during my pregnancy, when travelling on a scooty wasn’t an option, the cab policy helped me to travel. I’d meet the Distribution Sales Representatives (DSRs), check in at distribution points, and still be there for my family. I didn’t have to choose. I could do both.”
With flexibility from her team at Godrej, she now manages both home and hustle. When needed, she works from home.
Otherwise, she hits the market -- her bike, and open sky her constant companion.
“I started making calls, initiating conversations, showing up, and slowly, my team they started coming to me with queries. Now, if there’s an update, I’m the first one they call.”
